In the Sign of Jesus – Faces in the Face
In the exhibition, works created in 2022 by some of the best students of the Accademia Albertina di Torino are displayed alongside a piece by the artist Ezio Gribaudo, next to three objects of deep historical significance: a signed print of the first photograph of the Shroud of Turin taken by Secondo Pia in 1898, a copy of a photograph of the original painting of the Divine Mercy commissioned by Saint Faustina in 1934, and the first three-dimensional development of the Shroud commissioned by Antoine Legrand in 1974. A film highlights a common thread that links images of the Holy Face in two millennia of representations.
The exhibition was inaugurated on 20 October 2023 and remained open until 10 December 2023.
Details
The current exhibition was born on the occasion of an exhibition of woodcuts by students of the Academy of Fine Arts “Mario Sironi” of Sassari, along with some of the most important living Italian and European masters on the theme of the supreme sacrifice of martyrs.
Since 2022, the Foundation has supported young talents in their artistic research related to the theme of the Holy Face. In July 2023, it allowed a group of young people to participate in the WYD in Lisbon, where the search for the Holy Face could become a life experience. This experience was called to become part of the new exhibition “In the Sign of Jesus – Faces in the Face,” inaugurated in Asti, through their testimony.
Thus, history, art, and science intertwine to give voice to a Face capable of leaving a mark, the most represented by artists of all time: that of Jesus of Nazareth.
